Dallas City Guide

Im 33, And Considering Moving To New York.?

Dallas is pretty much my home, but Im just feeling I need some change. I’ll always come back, but I want a fresh lifestyle for a while. Has anybody ever tried this? Ofcourse I’m worried about the negatives, like job, cost of living etc. But I’m trying to think of some positives. Does anybody have any thougths on this?

New York City is a really fun place to live, and I’m sure some of your friends will be jealous!! Everything is pretty expensive in NY and it is sometimes hard to easily find a job, since so many people want to work in NYC. However, you are never bored. There are so many activities and sources of entertainment. There are many different kinds of people and places to eat! There are also many stores! The parks are beautiful too. In addition, if you like to walk, NYC is great because you can walk pretty much everywhere (we live in NYC and do not own a car). However, if you want to you can get around by bus, taxi, or subway.
So I would vote YES for moving into NYC. However, if you are on a tight budget, you will probably find yourself “working your way up” in terms of appartments, lifestyle, etc.

It depends on what you do and whether you’ll have an easy time finding a job. The recession has not hit NY as hard as other cities, but we’re feeling the effects, especially in the financial industry. You should look at Craigslist and see what apartments are renting for – you may pay twice what you pay in Dallas for half the space. The upside – a world class city with amazing cultural amenities, incredible entertainment and sports venues, a bright and diverse populace. Do lots of research and be realistic about how much it costs to live here. It is definitely worth it if you really want to do it, and are willing to work hard to support yourself.

Well I lived in NYC for pretty much all my life (I’m 25) and just moved to London this past March.
NYC is a great city, lots of culture, things to do around the clock, great diversity. Also there are so many industries with in NYC that finding a job is not that hard (not including the current state of the economy).
I think its a great thing to live in a different place for a period time it really gives you perspective and in my case it made me appreciate home. When I left NYC I was completely fedup with it and now I miss it dearly. I would really suggest that you visit NYC by yourself, walk around get a feel for what it would be like to live there.
    Best of luck to you.
